Treasure Hunting in Yakima: My Seattle Scanner Score
When you're a collector like me, sometimes the universe aligns to deliver exactly what you need. That's exactly what happened on my recent trip to Seattle when I stumbled upon an Epson FF-680W scanner at RePC. As someone who's always hunting for hidden gems at estate sales and yard sales around Yakima, this scanner was the missing piece in my treasure-hunting puzzle.
Let me tell you, bringing this beauty back to Yakima was like Christmas morning. After years of finding fascinating old photographs at local sales, I finally had the perfect tool to preserve and share these glimpses into the past.
The setup was surprisingly simple (though I did spend an embarrassing amount of time trying to find the power button), and before long, I was feeding in photographs that had been sitting in shoeboxes for months. Each scan revealed details I hadn't noticed before – the subtle expressions, the forgotten fashions, the backgrounds that tell stories of their own.
What makes these finds special is that they were all discovered right here in Yakima. Each photo came from local estate sales and yard sales, offering glimpses into our community's past. Most of these images capture life in the Pacific Northwest – familiar landscapes, regional celebrations, and the everyday moments that made up life in this beautiful corner of the country.
There's something magical about rescuing these forgotten moments. Every estate sale photo represents someone's memory – a birthday celebration, a family vacation, a quiet Sunday afternoon – moments that somehow ended up in a stranger's hands. Now, with my trusty Epson, these memories are getting a second life on Yakima Finds.
I've included some of my favorite discoveries below. Each image carries its own mystery. Who were these people? What were they celebrating? Where in the Pacific Northwest were they when these moments were captured? Sometimes I can't help but create stories in my mind about the lives captured in these frames.
If you're in the Yakima area and love hunting for history, keep an eye on local estate sales – you never know what forgotten treasures you might uncover. And if you recognize anyone in these photos, I'd love to hear from you! There's nothing more satisfying than reconnecting these images with the families they once belonged to.
DISCLAIMER: If any of these photographs feature your family members and you would like them removed from this site, please email me at john@yakimafinds.com and I'll take them down immediately, and give you the originals.
Happy treasure hunting, everyone!
